Cultivating the grass of our minds; Gen-z
"MENTAL HEALTH IS NOT A DESTINATION, BUT A PROCESS. IT'S ABOUT HOW YOU DRIVE, NOT WHERE YOU'RE GOING"
Gen-Z is improving in technology and with the brains but it clearly lacks in maintaining is it's mental health. Between 20% -- 30% of adolescents report symptoms of depression. While depression once was considered an ''adult'' affliction, our generation has changed this statement completely where the mean age of one today is 14. Almost 9% of high school students have attempted suicide in the past year.
Isn't this alarming? Mental illness is becoming increasingly common among teenagers globally. Recent studies indicate that approximately one in five teens between ages 11 to 18 suffer from mental illness.
The consequences of not addressing mental health conditions extend to adulthood, impairing both physical and mental health thus limiting opportunities to lead fulfilling lives as an adult because childhood is the foundation of our life.
Mental illness in teenagers can be formed due to various reasons. For example, Teens can develop feelings of worthlessness and inadequacy over their grades therefore, it triggers learning disabilities that make academic success difficult. Social status, Peer pressure, sexual orientation, a stressful home environment or neighborhood poverty, violence, trauma, or hormonal changes affecting the mood often leads to depression, and due to this many teenagers consume drugs and medications to take over their minds.
